Methodology

How We Check Pages

Private Health Compass is a publisher, not a clinic, insurer, broker, or medical adviser. Our job is to show where a claim came from and where the reader should verify it before acting.

Who creates the content

Pages are published by Private Health Compass. We use an editorial-team byline rather than a named public author. That means the page has to carry its trust signals in the open: dated checks, source links, independence notices, and correction routes.

How a page is created

  • Primary source check: we start with the provider, insurer, regulator, or official public body.
  • Regulatory check: where relevant, we check CQC, FCA, NHS, Financial Ombudsman, or other public records.
  • Commercial check: we record whether a page contains affiliate links, lead-generation links, or no paid link at all.
  • Limitations check: we say when a price, underwriter, appointment slot, or policy term is not public or may change by quote.

Source hierarchy

We prefer sources in this order:

  • Official provider, insurer, broker, clinic, or hospital pages.
  • Public regulator records such as CQC, FCA, NHS, Companies House, or official complaint routes.
  • Policy wording, fee schedules, terms, and price pages published by the provider.
  • Dated first-hand checks carried out by us, clearly labelled with the month checked.
  • Secondary sources only when they add context and do not replace the official source.

What we do not publish

  • We do not give medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment guidance.
  • We do not say a policy or provider is suitable for your personal circumstances.
  • We do not publish star ratings or review scores for providers we have not used as patients.
  • We do not invent prices, underwriters, waiting times, or policy details that are not public.

Affiliate links and commercial intent

Affiliate links are labelled before the link where they appear. A page can still be independent if it contains an affiliate link, but the commercial relationship has to be clear before a reader clicks. Providers and insurers cannot pay to be listed, moved higher, or removed from criticism.

Updates and corrections

Money pages are reviewed at least quarterly where practical, and sooner when a source changes or a correction is reported. If you spot something wrong, send the page URL, the exact claim, and the better source through our contact page.
