About Private Health Compass

Private Health Compass is an independent UK consumer guide that compares private GP, specialist, and health cover options using public sources, dated checks, and provider disclosures. We are not affiliated with any provider we cover.

Who runs this site

Private Health Compass is written and maintained by an independent UK consumer research publisher. The public author and publisher is Private Health Compass, not a named individual. We use a brand-level editorial byline so accountability sits with the site, the source trail, and the correction process.

Our research process is practical: reading published price lists, cross-checking regulator data, and comparing what providers actually say against what they actually charge. We went looking for straight answers on same-day private GP appointments and specialist consultation fees. We mostly found vague "from" marketing pages instead. Private Health Compass exists to fill that gap.

We are not doctors, nurses, insurers, brokers, or other regulated advisers. No clinical qualifications are claimed by anyone who writes for this site. We do not give medical advice, treatment guidance, or personal insurance recommendations.

What we do

We compare private healthcare access and cover across three areas:

  • Same-day and private GP access including named clinics and what they charge.
  • Private specialists referenced against published consultation fees and our own dated checks of appointment availability where available.
  • Health and travel insurance comparing what different policies cover and roughly what they cost.

Every provider or insurer page carries a clear notice that we are independent of that provider. We do not sit inside anyone's booking funnel. No provider pays us for coverage or for a better position on this site.

How we research

We work from public, checkable sources: CQC ratings and inspection reports for clinics and hospitals, providers' own published price lists, and NHS data on typical waiting times. We date any first-hand claim, such as a specific price or an availability check, and say where it came from. We say so rather than guess if we cannot verify something.

Full detail on our process, correction policy, and how we handle affiliate links is on our editorial policy page. Get in touch if you spot something out of date or wrong. We will check it.

How to challenge a claim

Every factual correction should be traceable. Send the page URL, the exact claim, and the better official source through our contact page. We prioritise corrections backed by provider pages, policy documents, regulator records, or fee schedules.

A note on this domain

This site runs on smmcnj.org. That domain previously belonged to a US hospital that closed some years ago. We think that history is worth being upfront about. Read the full story on our domain history page.
