What a private GP appointment costs in the UK
13 providers checked, 19 July 2026We checked the published price lists of 13 UK private GP providers in July 2026. Across the 11 that publish an in-person price, the median is £112, ranging from £75 to £310. Across the 7 that publish a video or phone price, the median is £65, from £45 to £155.
These are each provider’s own published list price for a standard appointment, retrieved on the dates shown next to each source below. They are not quotes, and most exclude tests, prescriptions and referrals unless the provider says otherwise. Always check the current price before booking.
Price by provider
Each row is one provider’s headline price: its published in-person price where it has one, otherwise its video or phone price (marked). Sorted highest to lowest.
What drives the price
Location. In our sample, the 6 providers with a Harley Street or Chelsea address have a higher median in-person price, £145, than the 5 providers elsewhere, £99. That is a small sample and not a claim about the whole market, but it is what our data shows: The London General Practice (£310), Sloane Street Surgery (£250) and Harley Street Medical (£150) sit well above HCA UK (£99), Nuffield Health at Highgate (£100) and Practice Plus Group (£95).
Duration. Longer appointments cost more within the same provider. Fleet Street Clinic charges £112 for 15 minutes, £205 for 30 minutes and £390 for 60 minutes. The Harley Street General Practice charges £140 for 15 minutes and £280 for 30 minutes, a straight doubling.
In-person vs video. Where a provider publishes both prices, video or phone is consistently the cheaper option: DocTap charges £65 online against £75 in clinic, Harley Street Medical charges £50 online against £150 in clinic, and London Doctors Clinic charges £70 for a 15-minute video call against £89 for the same-length in-person slot.
Membership vs pay-as-you-go. Providers that also sell a subscription price a one-off visit at a premium to the plan rate. HCA UK’s one-off appointment is £99, against its Flexible Care GP plan at £260 a year for unlimited visits. Doctor Care Anywhere’s one-off video appointment is £45, against a £25-a-month unlimited plan.
How this compares with the NHS
NHS GP appointments are free at the point of use, funded through National Insurance and general taxation, and every registered patient has a right to choose and change their GP practice. The trade-off is access rather than cost: routine NHS appointments are often booked further ahead, and a same-day slot for a non-urgent problem is not guaranteed. Every provider in this dataset lets a self-pay patient book directly without going through that route, but none of them replace NHS emergency or urgent care.

Do you need to register for a private GP?
It depends on the provider. Most of the pay-as-you-go clinics in this dataset, including DocTap, London Doctors Clinic and Fleet Street Clinic, and the video-only services, let you book and pay for a single appointment without registering as a patient first. Some Harley Street practices, and subscription plans such as HCA UK’s and Doctor Care Anywhere’s, expect you to sign up before your first visit. Check the individual provider’s booking page before you commit.
Is a private GP worth it?
That depends on what you are paying for: speed of access and appointment length, not necessarily better clinical care. NHS GP appointments are free at the point of use; the providers we checked charge a median of £112 in person or £65 by video or phone. Whether that trade-off is worth it to you is a personal call based on budget and how quickly you need to be seen. We do not make that call for you.
We visited each provider’s own price page or published fee list directly and recorded the figures shown there; we did not use third-party comparison sites as a price source. Where a provider publishes prices for more than one duration or format, we used the shortest published in-person appointment as its headline figure. Where a provider only offers a price for one hospital or clinic within a larger chain (Nuffield Health, Spire GP), we used that location’s figure and say so. If a provider did not publish a clear, current price on its own site, we left it out rather than estimate one; that is why well-known names such as GPDQ and Medicspot do not appear here.
